See Tater's post of about a day ago regarding the jumper cables. And
the fact that any competent surgeon could remove it (if they cut a nerve
or two, so what? It regenerates).

Plus, I'll always felt that if Spike simply kept forcing the chip to
activate, his body would eventually acclimatize to the pain. Heck, he
might even like it. I think this is what Dru was talking about in
"Crush". "Pain is a thing of the mind. I am a Vulcan."--oops, wrong
fandom.

Oh, and then there's that Wish that I'm certain he knew Anya was waiting
to grant (in "Entropy"). If he'd wished he had the chip out so that he
could take Vengeance on Buffy for dumping him, I don't see how she could
have refused (unless she's completely free to do what she likes, but
that contradicts her "normally, I'd have to" line in "Villains").
