An interview I have with David Fury from the Succubus Club states 
that SMG has debated whether or not to do an season 8 but it's all a 
matter of $$ and renegotiating contracts. He wouldn't comment too 
much on it, but he said that talks have already happened and that 
money is indeed being thrown around at this point so there is, in 
fact, a possibility that season 8 will take place, but if SMG turns 
it down - should UPN not be able to make the contract juicy enough, 
then I think the show will stop. Joss doesn't want to bring in 
another person as Buffy after it being so established by SMG.
