Re: OT: Prioritising
This place was created in hopes that there would be like minded people
out there rooting for this couple. So, this is a place where we'll all
be able to exchange ideas, post fics, talk about those cute moments that
are shown in the episodes, tell others why you think they would be good
together and things like that.
It's kind of a hang out place for Buffy and Willow fans.
6: Off-Topic Posts - Off-topic posts are fine as long as they are
labeled as such. Also, keep in mind that collectively, both lists, we
are over 800 strong, so you may want to wait in responding to an off
topic post until some other people have replied. That way you can
respond to the poster and the others also.
12: Respect - Well, someone once said that opinions are like ***holes,
everybody's got one. I think it's a good point. While we all hold our
favorite Slayer and Wiccan in common, we hail from different parts of the
country, as well as the world (and in some cases, different planets). We
come from different families, backgrounds, upbringings and values. I may
not agree with something you say, but I can say it in a non argumentative
fashion. Translated: Respect how others feel and they will do the same.
Agree that you disagree, make intelligent and valid points for your side
of things and move on.
The above italicized text was taken from the welcome message that is sent
out to all new members and has some bearing on the Prioritsing thread
that Mad Hamlet started (which, by the way should've been OT since it
does not pertain to B/W but to the list and the direction it's going in).
As stated above, OT posts are fine so, as long as they are being labelled
as such, get over it (or post your own OT post and ask for less OTness).
Episode discussions are also encouraged (see "talk about those cute
moments that are shown in the episodes") and I believe that this also
should include discussions where there are no cute moments since you've
gotta take the good with the bad. I will add one major point to this
however. Many of the so-called episode discussions have degenerated away
from the episode itself and veered towards the writers, creators and
directors. I would submit that once you leave the arena of discussing
what we see on the screen and start delving into the motivations and
thoughts of the writers you've gone from on topic to off topic. I enjoy
the episode discussions - even Dan's vitriolic diatribes ;-). I had
serious problems with season 6 particularly Willow's arc and Spuffy and,
although I'm anxiously waiting to see what Joss and company do next, I
enjoyed seeing others opinions. What I don't like are discussions that
include who raised Marti. That she was raised by two women (if I
understand correctly) holds no interest to me or has no place in a
discussion about the episode itself but when it's included in an ep
discussion and not labelled as OT (which I think it clearly is) it's hard
to avoid (along with other attacks on the other writers, etc.)
Just my two cents. And to toss in another two cents from this lurker, you
writers out there rock my world. I look forward every evening to getting
home from work to see what new tidbits were posted that day. Particular
thanks and kudos to Red Willow (loving The Spaces Inbetween), The Bear!
(anxiously awaiting part 3 of Red Skies at Morning), Kirayoshi
(everything you write is just awesome) and Anne Lise (you are incredibly
talented). Everyone else (too numerous to mention) keep up the great
work. Michael
