People, at least those who are not extras on silly TV
shows, have an amazing capability to cope.
Gingerbread was kinda silly, though it could have been
chilling.

And getting off topic a bit more... even if you don't
want to tell the Normal Folk, this ties in with the
Wunder Coven: why not more magical protection around
the 'mouth?

Or is it just that the Sunnydale Hellmouth is actually
fairly small change in the battle betweeen Good and
Evil? Could it be that the reason there's just One
Girl defending against the whole thing is that the
Powers think that's all their HR department can afford
to allocate to it? Hehe.

They showed an amazing measure of resilience at
Graduation, considering they didn't really know what
was going on. Of course, that was just the students;
IIRC the parents spooked and scattered.

And I suppose that *is* one of the messages of Buffy,
after all: kids have hidden powers that adults try to
hold down and repress, because the adults are really
no-good shmucks. Especially parents, unless they're
Buffy's Mom.

Does the outside world know too, or just the SDPD?
'Cause if it's just the Scoobs and the police, that's
not too much better.

That makes a bit more sense. They're still pretty
unconcerned. Unless Buffy, The Guidance Counselor,
really is planning to hang around the school
full-time, a hellmouthy high school isn't a good
thing.

OTOH, maybe the scoobs secretly *want* the next
generation of kids to go through the same things they
had to go through. "When I was your age, we had to
walk to school through graveyards full of demons. And
it was uphill *both ways*! So don't you go
complaining about Jonnie's severed body parts
appearing in your desk drawers, sprout."

I bet that's it.
