Re: my thoughts on Willlow
Oh, Greywolf, I am SO with you. It's part of the reason I think
"Flooded" is the absolute worst ep in the history of the show. Giles's
behavior to Willow makes no sense and makes even less sense when he
promptly up and bails on her in "Tabula Rasa". About the only logical
explanation is that he thinks she's about to blow and is running for
cover (and abandoning Buffy to her death...and that's the "logical"
answer).
Plus, as DEM pointed out in another forum, his quashing Willow's
suggestion of a locating spell in the final scene--a non-black magic
spell which isn't nearly as complicated as the spells she's been
successful with recently--basically makes him responsible for the
deaths of Katrina, Tara, Warren, and Rack, not to mention the
near-destruction of the world. All because he took looked upon the fact
that the most successful witch in the room suggested a logical and
useful spell as an opportunity to scold Willow, rather than a necessary
tactical idea.
And damn it Giles, if you think Willow casting the locator spell would
be so bad (although there's no reason to think so), why don't YOU do it?
Or St. Tara the Pure? Or Anya, who has a thousand years of experience
with magic? Or Dawn, who IS magic, and was able to do a resurrection
spell in "Forever"? Or Buffy, who mastered the Cloutier Trance (a
technique of sorcery that Willow hadn't ever done)?
Hell, I bet even Xander could do it...stupid, stupid, episode--and I'm
not even counting the Spuffy parts..
