to the question of whether people dismiss male writers, based
on coments I've seen on some more lesbian-centric lists, I'd say
yes, SOME people do. I don't think most people do, though.
IMO, most people who read a lot of fic go for pairing or author
reputation. If I see a B/W fic on a list by someone I don't know
I'm going to at least start it, and usually will finish it. The issue of
who, or what the author is, is secondary, unless it's someone
who's work I know and don't care for.
re not getting feedback, I think sometimes it's just like the
weather. I read a whole whole lot more than I write and I don't
always give feedback, but I don't have a set list of reasons not
to. Sometimes if something just knocks my socks off, I feel self
conscious responding because what I have to say sounds
dumb
Also, I think it's the same group of folks doing the reading and
they're making the rounds of sites and once they've read it, not
that many new readers are checking in. B/W has a fairly small
following, something I've never understood, but there you go...
