Re: Re: Something I've noticed.
It's interesting. For months now I've been hesitating back and forth on the
idea of writing a NC-17 followup to one of my earlier fics. I'm much more
into the love aspect instead of the physical, and yes, one of the reasons I've
hemmed and hawed about it was that I wasn't sure I was comfortable enough to
write a decent love scene.
I'm recently 'gay', as Willow might say, so I have some experience with the
actual mechanics of writing something along the required lines. But that
didn't make me any more comfortable when I finally decided to write it. That might
be another pre-requisite when deciding who and how that type of fic should be
written. Are you calm and sure enough of yourself to write something like
that, or are you only doing it because you feel your story needs something to
spice it up?
I mean if you don't like writing certain things, chances are it won't come
out as well as things you do enjoy writing. Seems that's what happened to me.
I got talked into writing the love scene even when I wasn't really comfortable
doing it. And I got little to no feedback on it. Whereas the fic that it
was a sort of sequel to seemed to be very popular.
I don't think gender has anything to do with it. Some men can be the most
sensual and creative author's there are. And not to mention that lesbian sex is
pretty much just like oral sex. So even if a man writes it, they might just
have performed much of the same thing on a woman.
I agree with whoever said that if you want to write it, write it. And if you
want to read it, read it. I applaud anyone who gathers up the courage to try
their hand at fic writing and posts it. For anyone and everyone to see.
It's not always easy, especially if you're worried about critiques
Anyway, just my two cents, not worth much I know.
