Re: Alyson & Sarah question
Desiree,
First, a Season 7-generated fan? Nice to know the show was still
getting people involved, even then. (And I think Trek-ish thoughts of
Buffy and Willow going on in syndication, making new B/W 'shippers yet
to come <g>).
As to the "unscripted touching" here's the drill: while the prominent
hand-holding in "Hush" is something Joss put in the script (sadly, as a
counterpoint to Willow's being "handed over" to Tara later in the ep),
all of the delightful physicality in Seasons 1-2 was unscripted, and
thus most likely an expression of Sarah & Aly's RL closeness.
A brief list:
B/W hold hands coming down the stairs at the Bronze in "Teacher's Pet"
(and how I wish they hadn't cut that short scene upstairs!)
B/W hold hands **heading off to class** at the end of "The Pack"
B/W hold hands **running through the school halls** in "Some Assembly
Required"
B/W go arm-in-arm at the museum in "Inca Mummy Girl"
B/W are arm-in-arm as they struggle sluggishly into the library in "Bad
Eggs". (According to the script, Buffy was supposed to veg out at the
table, but she and Willow ended up delightfully close on the stairs.)
B/W stroll out of the Bronze, looking every bit as couple-y as Xander
and Cordy, in the teaser for "Passion".
Buffy takes Willow's hand as they flee the cafeteria in "I Only Have
Eyes For You" (again, neatly matching Xander's gentle stroking of
Cordy's hand in the ambulance).
(Also, Buffy seems to sit close to or rub up against Willow while
walking more times than the script really justifies, IM [ultra-shippy]
O. See most of "Teacher's Pet", the end of "I Robot, You Jane" and the
long walking shot with Giles and Kendra in "What's My Line, Part 2, for
example.)
And NONE of that was in the scripts. Once, I would have considered that
it might be Joss, setting something up, but since the show didn't go
there, I think it was mostly Sarah/Aly either making a delightful acting
choice, or being really good friends.
Whichever, I miss it.
Dan
