I personally didn't mind the Angel return of Season 3, but I do agree it was a certain amount of laziness on the part of the writers to pair Buffy and Spike in Season 6. Sure, Spike "loved" Buffy during Season 5 and she knew, but Buffy turning to Spike to make her feel something in Season 6 never made any sense to me, since she had nothing but feelings of revulsion during the beginning of Season 5 and then maybe a sense of resolve towards the end since she needed him for the fight against Glory. I thought the writers just sort of "gave in" with the Buffy / Spike relationship, because so many of the fans wanted it. Personally, I would rather Buffy have been alone for Season 6. It seemed like that would have made more sense to me.
