>> HmHmmm. since Buffy is ostensibly the hero of the piece I think you can pair her up with almost anyone. How well it works just depends on when you pair her up with someone.
>Pretty much. She has to have a relationship of some sort with the entire cast. So, any of these relationships can be built on and explored. There's also the matter of how Sarah and the other person would play off each other. The WB had the "six inches of seperation" rule put in place between Buffy and Giles, because of the chemistry between SMG and ASH, giving Buffy's and Giles's relationship a dynamic the network didn't want (though some directors ignored the rule). The
Buffy/Faith thing started with how Sarah and Eliza played their scenes together, and was quickly written into the show. That's how the Buffy/Spike thing developed, as well. There was a romantic vibe to Buffy's scenes with both Xander and Willow, created entirely by how the actors played their scenes. One huge reason I think Buffy/Riley failed was because Buffy had better chemistry with just about everybody else.
>I wonder if, after a while, the actors just started playing things certain ways just to drive Joss nuts. Aly in Bargaining comes to mind :)
