How about this one? http://www.chicagostation.com/buffic/observare.htm Someone else on one of my Giles lists suggested it. I'd never read it before but it's REALLY good. It's set in season 2, Giles's father is dying of cancer, he lives in a cottage outside of Bath in a small town where lots of Watchers and Watcher families live. Is that it?

As for dealing with the authority figure thing... I never saw him as an "authority" in her life. I never saw her look at him as such. As a mentor and a trainer, as someone else said, sure, but an authority, who gives orders which are followed? No.
