Since you said "correct me if I'm wrong", I will.

1)  I thought I was clear, but I guess not.  I was wondering what Joss
thought of "this development" (B/A proving more successful in fic/fandom
than B/S) because IMO Joss spent the last three seasons he ran (BtVS
S6-S7, Angel S5) fluffing Spike and Spuffy to the skies, while pretty
much crapping on Angel.  I've seen analyses of Angel S5 where it's
described as Angel having a nervous breakdown because he can't cope with
how Spike is a Pure Heroic Figure, so given Joss's love for Marsters and
his Spuffy fixation ("beautiful" and "romantic" to hook up with a
soulless killer, "great" that Buffy has sex [after the Act 2
stare-off/blackout scene in the finale] with her attempted rapist), I
would think he's popping a blood vessel that the fans don't "get" what a
great guy St. Sunkencheeks is, and ultimately prefer Buffy with King
Brood.

2) "Groped", the lovely
Buffy-cuddles-with-Spike-on-the-anniversary-of-the-rape episode (or, for
others' displeasure, the
Willow-sleeps-with-another-woman-on-the-anniversary-of-Tara's-death
episode) is credited to Rebecca Rand Kirshner.  (Although I'm thinking
the Spuffy Cuddle of Pure and Righteous Chastity scene smells like Joss
ghosting, given how liberally Spike steals from Xander's "You're My
Hero" speech [from Joss's "The Freshman"]).  The Petrie/Espenson
collaboration you're thinking of is the next ep, "End of Days".

3) As for your "Angel was forgiven for Angelus, so Spike's soul means we
can forget about everything he did before 'Grave'" argument, you may
recall I already rebutted this, at length, a few months ago on
BuffyNFaith.  I'll pull it again, if I must, but to keep it short I'll
simply say that's a facile attempt to have it both ways for The Cancer's
benefit.  If we're really to believe that Spike's a new guy, Buffy
shouldn't treat him like her ex-boyfriend.  Spike (and his fans) want
credit for all the "good" (self-serving) things he did pre-S7 yet want
to sweep everything else under the "Soul now!" rug.  Nuh-uh.

3a) Yeah, Spike was originally more fun than Angel, for a simple
reasonhe was created as one-dimensional comic villain.  Try and put
him in Angel's shoes, as an angst-ridden vampire in love with a Slayer,
though, and IMO he's a pale copy that lacks the necessary gravity (puns
intended).  Of course, Angel blamed his suffering on himself, while
Spike blamed Buffya lovely habit that he kept up even when ensouled.
What a prince.

4) Finally, you're getting perilously close to saying something nasty
about Willow that I don't think you want to say here.  "All the Way"
does not equal "Seeing Red", no way, no how.  (IMO, it doesn't even
equal "Family".)  Back off, please.  I've said this list has three rules
wrt character discussion:  liking Buffy, liking Willow, liking B/W.
Learn 'em, love 'em, live 'em.
