Yeah, Dan, I know, you hate Spike, and, for some reason, the actor
that plays him, with a fiery vengeance. I do have to ask, though, how
much of this has to do with the character, or actor, because you get
the same way whenever I express a strong love for Tara, or the actress
that played her (accusing me of "pimping" her, at one point). Now,
granted, their presense didn't help this ship's cause, but I don't
hold a grudge against the characters, and, especially, the actors who
played them so well, over it :)

As I've said before, Spike had layers long before Season 5, and his
redemption arc was a natural one for the character that had been
developed over the previous seasons. I'd posted a lot of Spike
analysis on the newsgroup during Season 4, including figuring he was
probably a shy guy who wrote romantic poetry a year before Fool For
Love aired. Seems everything was already in place well before the
arc. Of course, there were a lot of things about Spike that I could
identify with. Same with Tara. An unusual combination to relate to,
I know, but...
4) Finally, you're getting perilously close to saying something nasty
about Willow that I don't think you want to say here. "All the Way"
does not equal "Seeing Red", no way, no how. (IMO, it doesn't even
equal "Family".) Back off, please. I've said this list has three rules
wrt character discussion: liking Buffy, liking Willow, liking B/W.
Learn 'em, love 'em, live 'em.

Which means we can't criticize them when they do something wrong? Willow did some very bad things. She screwed up. Royally. She's
human, after all. I don't see how simply pointing out something she
did on the show, which, by the way, was a major plot development, is
"saying something nasty" about her. She had a major fall from grace,
and did some truly deplorable things. She learned. She grew. She
redeemed herself, and came out of it a stronger, and more mature,
person than she was before, a true champion. Needs to work on her
current taste in women, but still... :)

It was Willow's Hero's Journey that made her, by the end, the second
most important character in the series, second only to the title
character. If she HADN'T developed beyond Season 3, she'd have ended
up like Xander, the regular who wasn't given anything to do by the end.
I love Willow, a lot. She's one of my two favorite characters on the
show (If you're curious who the other is, look at the list name). But, I'm not going to pretend she's absolutely perfect and saint-like
at all times. I'd have gotten bored with her, pretty quickly, if she
had been.
