If he's the comic relief than why did he got such serious stuff in, 
for example S6? Why can a comic relief back off Angelus? And most 
importantly why is Andrew hanging around? All Xander's past girls 
were worried with Xander's love and loyalty for Buffy. Including Anya 
and even Faith. (Strangle. Both Angel and Spike were worried about 
it. Only Riley didn't. They needed to have lose his eye and make 
Buffy into an cold dictator to make him slip in his loyalty so that 
Spike can have his moment.

Giles is a mentor to Willow. Always was. Only it ended somewhat one-
dimentional. Like Willow/Buffy. Too bad.

Problem with Giles is that he's trapped in between being a father 
figure and a mentor. Both with Willow and Buffy. Add to it that he 
had serious issues with both of them and his the fatherfigure 
relation gets strained. Nonetheless Giles and Willow have a strong 
bond.
