OT: Xander (was Re: OT re: "Popular" fanfic couples)

Still, he was damn serious during those episodes and in the final 
scene of Grave. I know that the in between eps were sick. Although, 
don't forget. Buffy AR and almost dead. Tara dead. Willow furious. 
Anya out for her vengeance on him. 

The way I see it, is like this. Xander saved Willow as much as Willow 
saved him.


In S7 he had somekind of weird mixture between being serious and a 
comic relief. It's not like that he was such a butt-monkey. In fact 
he was very important. Only you need a microscope to be able to see 
it. But, the fact that when he shakes his head is enough to get Buffy 
out, is telling a lot. And also Giles was uncomfortable with Xander's 
eye lost, which is a rare behaviour for him.

That was the scene I meant. The moment Buffy makes a move on Xander 
is precisely where everybody, who was interested in either Buffy or 
Xander, was so scared for. Not the other way around. Also don't 
forget that Anya had blond hair instead of her natural brown.

Well, again one of the right scenes. But, that one is open for 
multiple interpretation. The scene is also open for Faith to check if 
Xander's 'I'm still a virgin' story was true. If Xander had been 
honest. But, the most important scene is in Consequences, where she 
directly felt betrayed by his automatic support and loyalty for 
Buffy. That's not open for multiple interpretation.

There is only one person who would never have to be afraid for 
Xander's love for Buffy and that's Willow. Willow will always come 
first for him.

I think if there's ever to come a Buffy/Willow ship, Xander 
involvement is key in making that work.
