I always thought Spike's main mirrors were Giles and Riley, actually.
  Riley was the ultra chivilric champion of his goddess figure. 
Notice, in The Initiative, they even have the same entrance to Buffy's
and Willow's room.  Some have suggested that Christian Kane, who
played Lindsey on Angel, would have made a much better Riley than
Blucas did, given the character the sort of intense layers they seemed
to be trying for with the character.  As for Giles, they really played
up the parallels between Spike and Ripper in various episodes.
