Without Xander there would be no show beyond the first season (remember 
who it was that got Angel off his big chicken ass at cross point to help 
him save Buffy).

Without Xander. the show would have ended up as a cross between Xena and 
Clueless. The first couple of seasons rocked in part because of the 
interaction between the Scoobies. The last couple of seaons it degraded 
to Field Marshal Von Buffy, Willow the White, and their one eyed Hammer 
Monkey and the show sucked beyond the telling of it.

In the world of B/W, who do you think (other than Buffy and Willow of 
course) would be happiest if Buffy and Willow got together? Let's see, 
Buffy ain't a werewolf and Willow ain't a vampire. Provided they were as 
close of friends they were early on, nobody is going to be as happy as 
the X man (especially if you have him hooking up with Faith or Tara).

There will be NO killing of Xander without my express permission. There 
are still lots of ways of getting Buffy and Willow together without 
killing Xander off.

Someone did rewrite the ep to become a B/X/W ship (Teachers Pet 
Revisited). Good story about the Scoobies exploring their sexuality 
which unfortunately ended up as a B/X.
