That's cool, especially if it works best for your fic (And really,
isn't that what counts for fic writers?).  This is "officially" Canon,
but given the nature of the Buffyverse, it's various series and
formats, one can really pick and choose.  One can count the Angel
series or not.  One can count Season 8 or not.  

Working nicely for planned fic is one of the main reasons I'm using
it.  It eliminated that whole Rome/Immortal issue from Angel's last
season with one line (And the honeymoon being over for Willow and
Kennedy works so nicely, too).  I'd planned on giving them a set-up
pretty much like the one they have here, with bases around the world,
the main center being in Britain, and lots of witches.  The main
storyline even works nicely with what I had planned.  

So, yeah, I'm counting this as Canon, for at least the duration of
this particular fic.  :)

Oh, she's grown into the leadership role.  Even better, so has Xander.
 Yes, we have Respected!Xander, here.  Buffy just has had to adjust to
everybody calling her "Ma'am".  Xander's having to make the same sort
of adjustment in the first issue...

Renee:  Mister Harris, we've got a development with the Barcelona
squad.  Vamp nest looks a lot bigger than they thought.

Xander:  How many in the squad?

Renee:  Seven.  Donna's running them, but they're pretty green.

Xander:  Andrew's still working southern Italy -- Tell him to pick his
ten best, hop over.  

Renee:  Roger that.

Xander:  Tell him ten best.  Not ten best dressed.  We don't want
another Orvieto.

Renee:  Yes, Mister Harris.

Xander:  "Xander".  Renee, I told you, it's "Xander."  Or "Sergeant Fury."

Renee:  Wasn't Nick Fury a Colonel when he ran S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Xander:  I like him better in the Howling Commando days.  But your
nerd points are accumulating impressively.

Renee:  I try, Sergeant.

And, Buffy does listen to good advice.  In this issue, when she learns
she can only take one person with her to rescue Willow, her first
thought (naturally) is Xander.  Xander points out the reality that he
doesn't have Slayer abilities or magic, and this situation requires
someone who does.  

As for her strained relationship with Dawn, that's covered, this
issue.  No matter how much Buffy tries to be the mother figure, to
Dawn, she's always Big Sis.  Dawn sees Willow as the maternal figure,
and has since Willow and Tara were taking care of her during the
Summer between Seasons 5 and 6.  



Willow: "It's a good fight, Buffy, and I want in."
Buffy:  "I kinda love you."
