Indeed - the Buffy canon repeatedly plays with the idea that anything
in it might just be another fanfic: Jonathan as Mary Sue (Superstar);
Xander as the secret hero just off-camera in a rubbish Buffy-and-Angel
episode (the Zeppo); it's all maybe in Buffy's head anyway (the asylum
one, er, title escapes me); etc.

And imho the sign-off of Season 7 is as heavily metafictional as other
Whedon endings (most obviously the 'love keeps her in the air when she
ought to fall down' bit at the end of Serenity, which is a blatant nod
to the diehard fans). "Every girl who could have the power, will have
the power... Slayers, every one of us" - make your choice, are you
ready to write fanfic?
