Strong plotting work, with the details on the demons and the artifact,
and nice characterization of Willow drifting off over an
eternally-clueless Buffy and Giles properly reproaching his reckless
slayer. (Nice high school days feel on that, at that).

Just a question, a criticism, and a quibble.

Question: when is this set? We've got the Magic Box, so it's either 5
or 6, but Willow is apparently living with Buffy, but not Tara, so
that's post-"Tabula Rasa", but Giles is there. Are we present-day, with
Giles added in? I just ask because the characters have been through a
lot lately and while I don't expect references to actual events, just
knowing where we are helps me understand their actions and emotions.

Criticism: Villains who actually go "Muhahaha" while kidnapping the
damsel-in-distress are a little too cliched, I'm afraid

Quibble: regarding geography, Sunnydale is on the California coast,
about where Santa Barbara is, Joss says. Go southwest from there and
you just get a lot of ocean.

But, all in all, a lot of fun and I look forward to more.
