Well, the simple fact is, only new members' posts are subject to
moderation, and thus editing. It's the anti-spam measure Quin put in so
that we don't get those delightful "SEE BIG COCKS HERE!" messages that
you get on other lists. Folks are taken off of moderated status once
they've proven that they're not spammers and that they know how to
behave, and after that they're on their own.
Had Mad-Hamlet been abusive or just consistently rude, I could have
reset his account to moderated status, it's true. But it was one rant,
clearly labelled a rant, the text itself was in an attachment (for those
who didn't want to read it) it was rather self-evidently M-H being
himself, which was explained as such by subsequent posters, and followed
up with the message you quoted. So I don't think we're anywhere near
the line on that.
And there are also the occasional technical issues involved. M-H's post
came in while I was at work, it bounced out of my overflowing inbox and
I didn't even get to see it until several folks had replied to it. It's
not like I'm sitting here monitoring message after message all the
live-long day. Most of the time, it's up to everybody to police
themselves and most of the time they do a fine job of that.
It's just that Maria's first messages came in, rather angry (consider
the tone of the parts I *didn't* edit and then extrapolate from there),
and, yes, I could have simply rejected them for this, but she did have
somethng to say, and she herself noted that she had language issues. So
I thought that pruning anything excessively overwrought was the best
thing to do. It doesn't happen often, as I'm sure you've noticed.
Anyway, we all seem to be getting along, the group got more active
(perhaps now we can see more fics and more feedback for those fics?
Especially the feedback, 'cause it's very easy to do, y'know...) and
some interesting things were discussed. I'm hoping this means that
everything worked out okay in the end.
Okay?
Dan
(Plus I got the line "I wasn't talking to you or your penis!" out of the
deal, and that just gives me the giggles <g>)
