So Buffy is describing January 19th, not the 20th.  Unfortunately, 
that doesn't work at **all** because January 19th, 1998 is a Monday 
and they all had school the day before Buffy's birthday in "Surprise". 
And no, the ep didn't just skip from Friday to Mondayboth the 
Willow/Oz and Xander/Cordelia conversations specifically mention that 
Buffy's birthday is "tomorrow".

Actually it get worse.  Upon examination of the episode "Innocence" we 
find that the next two days after her birthday are school days as 
well.  This leaves the 14th as the only day that fits.
That year anyway.  Her birthday is always a schoolday in the 
buffyverse which the 14th isn't--it's a Sunday in 2001 and Dawn 
appeared to have had school on Buffy's birthday in "Blood Ties".
Or if you ignore the true dates of the cusp and call it the 20th, you 
still have the same problem in "Blood Ties"--the 20th is a Saturday in 
2001.
In fact there is no day that fits "Surprise" and "Innocence" showing 
it to be the second of four consecutive days of school *and* that is a 
weekday for the next four years.  There was a Buffy Birthday episode 
in the second through the sixth seasons.
Now "Blood Ties" doesn't clearly state that Dawn had school that day.  
They showed her coming in the Magic Box after school, A scene with 
Glory, then the party.  It never actualy says it's the same day.  If 
you can accept that the first scene is on Friday and the party scene 
isn't 'til Sunday--or that her party was not held on Buffy's actual 
birthday--then you're okay for the 14th.
I think I can accept that and so I'm going to go with the 14th.

Off topic?  Heck, it's the perfect excuse for the many canon 
inconsistancies.  Joss and co. are trying so hard to keep our true 
soulmates apart they don't have time to look at a calendar.  I know 
how hard it is to double-click on the clock and look at the calendar 
that pops up.

newly-added PS:  "I Will Remember You" might be on the weekend after 
Thanksgiving, since in "Something Blue" Riley is already back from 
Iowa and it's apparently before Buffy and Willow spent any time 
talking about Buffy's trip to LA.  So maybe Buffy waited a day or two 
before heading down the 101 to read Angel the riot act.

In "Something Blue", Buffy makes a one sentence reference to her trip 
to L.A.  I think we can safely assume there was an actual 
discussion--possibly involving ice cream--before then.  I still stand 
by 26 Nov 99 as the date of the deed that never happened.
Actually someone here ought to write up that discussion with a proper 
Wiffy ending.  I'm not going to, I've already got three season four 
fics in the works.  And two season three fics.  And two season one 
fics.  I really should finish at least one of them. :)
