Well, I for myself have enjoyed season 7 very much
(and I'm not much of a Spuffy shipper). I've enjoyed Kennedy very much
too.
Ok, the connection between the characters
especially Buffy and Willow haven't been at all strong or very much seen and yes
I admit, yay too much Buffy Spike time together though I admit finding their
relationship in that season at its best. So, not much for scooby bond but I
think it went we the storyline the show took over the last seasons. It evolve.
Season 6 dealt completely with inner turmoils and on the characters only (the
trio being a little distraction but not something as huge as Glory or the master
for example), so season 7 as a -big bad- and they intended on showing it was THE
big bad. So the characters, mainly Buffy did what they had to do. Buffy is
season 7 is at her best as The slayer, she has become cold and harsh and very
much lonely in her decisions, even more than usually but it's what she needed to
be.
The show evolved that way and that is showed in
what we know of what they did after: split. Buffy and Dawn in Rome, Will and Ken
in Brasil or such (don't remember) and Xander in South africa while Giles is in
England doing what he's always done, being the watcher and watcher's council's
stuff.
As for Kennedy, a lot of people dislike her for bad
reason; she came after Tara, or more general discussion over Joss and the team:
she had been put there to make Willow still a lesbian and calm down the gay and
lesbian 'anger' towards Tara's death. So maybe this is right but it doesn't
matter. We're supposed to watch a show and this shouldn't intervene as long as
the story makes sense which in this case makes a lot; what I mean, ok she was
completely different from Tara, a little arrogant, self confident and maybe
the kind of person I myself would have appreciated less than someone as gentle
as Tara, but she was also brave, (sometimes stubborn at being so courageous all
the time but at least she was never hiding and always trying to protect the
others). She was very much into actions (like Faith) but much more vulnerable
and feelings showing than this last one. So, she kind of forced herself in
Willow's life, that's her personality but after all it worked. It wasn't love,
and I'm glad we never heard any 'I love you's' from both side because it's not
what it was about. It's about moving on. That's life, you lose, you grieve, and
that you spend one year or ten ten grieving doesn't change anything, it's about
meeting people, flirting and eventually falling in love again. Kennedy is the
reason why Willow gain confidence again in her magic. She wouldn't have been
strong enough to do what she did in 'chosen' if it had not been for her
relationship with Kennedy and the strength it brought her. And this is all very
understandable. So, for me at least, that storyline worked very much and I don't
need to dig further into Joss's reason for bringing Kennedy's character because
it goes well with the storyline for me.
